UMA Living

The UMA residential groups offer gender-segregated accommodation for unaccompanied, underage asylum seekers aged twelve and over. With 24/7 support from the specialist team, youth-friendly accommodation with care, support and provision is guaranteed. Accommodation generally lasts until the child reaches the age of majority or, if recommended and agreed, until one year after reaching the age of majority.

In addition to a safe place to live and shelter, the offer includes age-appropriate,   socio-educational care and support (promotion of individual and social development) as well as the necessary measures for independence and integration, particularly with regard to school and vocational training (cultural, social and economic integration). The integration measures include appropriate everyday skills and language support. WUMA pursues a resource- and competence-oriented approach. This means that the existing personal and cultural skills and interests of the respective young people are incorporated into the process and development planning when supporting the UMA.

The residential groups are integrated into the social environment and distributed at different locations within the Canton of Basel-Landschaft. This enables the integration process in small residential group units to be integrated with the host society. WUMA therefore works closely with the resident population of the locations, the respective social welfare authorities, support services and educational institutions (schools, apprenticeships, bridge courses, etc.).
